RouteDNA

A structured way to score route risk before you book

RouteDNA is GroupFlow's route risk engine: a defined set of inputs, a scoring method, and a clear output. Not a black box.

What RouteDNA is

RouteDNA evaluates a proposed itinerary across a seven-factor weighted model and produces a composite risk score from 0 to 100 for the route.

The seven factors are weighted differently depending on the corridor. Africa to UK and Europe, for instance, weights visa transit risk far higher than a domestic hop would. It is a pre-booking tool: score first, book second. Every score can be traced back to the inputs that produced it.

Method

How the scoring works

  1. 1

    Itinerary submitted

The organiser submits a proposed route with its stops, connections and carriers.

  2. 2

    Factors evaluated

Each of the seven factors is scored independently, weighted by corridor-specific risk history.

  3. 3

    Score calculated

A composite score with a factor-level breakdown showing which risks are driving it.

  4. 4

    Action surfaced

The organiser sees the score, the top risk factors, and alternative routings with comparative scores.

The model

The seven risk factors

Each is scored independently, then weighted by the corridor being flown.

  1. 01

    Visa and transit requirements

Does the route require transit visas, airport transfers, or documentation the group may not have?

  2. 02

    Connection complexity

How many connections, how tight are the layovers, and what is the rebooking risk if one is missed?

  3. 03

    Carrier reliability

On-time record, cancellation rates, and how much rebooking capacity the carrier actually has.

  4. 04

    Pricing volatility

Fare window stability, last-minute surge risk, and seasonal spikes on the corridor.

  5. 05

    Documentation load

How many distinct documents each traveller needs, and how much margin there is for error.

  6. 06

    Corridor history

GroupFlow's own corridor data on how this route has actually behaved for groups.

  7. 07

    Group-specific risk

Adjusted for group size, experience mix, and how much capacity the organiser has.

Inputs and outputs

What RouteDNA takes in

  • The itinerary, with stops and connections
  • Carrier and route data
  • Historical corridor risk data
  • Group profile: size, experience, documentation status
  • Visa readiness pulled from the Trip Circle

What RouteDNA produces

  • A composite risk score from 0 to 100, with a factor breakdown
  • The specific risk drivers, in priority order
  • Alternative route suggestions with comparative scores
  • A risk delta comparing the original route against each alternative
